Sacrificial Service and Sparkplugs

We've got a harley motorcycle in our worship center. It is interesting to learn of some of the parts of the motor. Every part is important for the engine to roar. This past Sunday we learned the importance of the spark plug. While they are unseen they are what make the engine come to life. In John 12:20-26 Jesus makes it clear that following Him means we will be willing to sacrificially serve Him faithfully. Our service and our sacrifice may go unseen, but it is the spark that makes high impact for the kingdom. We are never more like Jesus then when we sacrifice our all for Him and serve Him with everything we've got.

I shared with our congregation that to give our all means we will have to be willing to do anything He calls us to do. I shared that one day our church in Lubbock will help launch churches in highly unreached cities throughout America and that some in our church here will go and be a part of those starts. We had almost 28 people raise their hands and say that God was stirring them to be willing to sacrifice and serve in a strategic way. Whether that is doing local service evangelism or going on a Mission trip or starting a new work, it was exciting to see many (on a spring break Sunday no less!) say they are willing to be obedient to God's call.

Speaking of mission trips, hearing great reports from our missions team to New Orleans. About 22 college students and adults went to New Orleans to build and to hold ministry outreach events every night throughout their spring break week. Already hearing about numerous praying to receive Christ. Very cool!

Really excited about our VLife Golf Scramble on April 4th at Lakeridge Country Club here in Lubbock. We are raising money for the missions efforts in Haiti with former Texas Tech star running back Barron Batch. Great event. If you are interested in playing or sponsoring a hole please call Victory Life at 806-698-6553.

God is doing great things.

What A Weekend

Could not be prouder of the disciple now event called "Momentum" our church hosted this weekend. Our student pastor Josh Merriott and his team did an outstanding job. Guest preacher was Kasey Benson and worship was led by Ben Moore and band. 70 students, 15 decisions for Christ, numerous families and volunteers involved, students broken and ready to reach their peers with the good news of Jesus. Again, grateful to God for His leading.

What does it mean to be relationally united with the Body of Christ? We gain insight to this question in Ephesians 4:1-6 and Philippians 2:1-4. It is important to be connected with a local church if you are a follower of Christ. But when you read the Scriptures it is more than being connected, it is about having a relationship of connecting, accountability, and single purpose. You will not experience the power of this relationship in the local church when you sit on the sidelines. It is when you are intentional in living for Christ in and through His Body, the Church. On a local level, a true follower of Christ will want a relationship with the church. This builds strength in discipleship and unity that can shake a region and nation for Christ.

A true disciple of Christ is going to be fully spirit led and relationally united with the body of Christ. The third mark of a dynamic disciple? That is this Sunday...

gaining momentum

Tonight our student ministry begins a weekend of ministry called "Momentum". It is a weekend of preaching, worship, service, and connecting in homes of families. I'm praying that God will begin a fire of zeal for evangelism, discipleship and reaching our city with the good news of Jesus.

Really proud of Josh and his team!

Last Sunday I taught on the person and power of the Holy Spirit. Paul writes a strong command in Ephesians 5. I pray that all followers of Jesus will be controlled by the power of the Holy Spirit. This is dynamic life change!

A lot is happening in our church. I continue to pray for great, godly leaders to step up and help us lead this ministry to reach our city and world for Christ. Every step is important. Plans are being discussed, prayed over, for the next 9 months of this ministry. I pray for great courage, faith and wisdom. God has done so much with VLife and I look forward to the future. Will we be ready for all God wants to do?

I pray so.

follow Jesus

One of the things I really appreciated about the account of Luke 19 is the fact that Zaccheaus didn't mind what other people thought about him. He was bold to meet Jesus and he was bold with his witness about the change Jesus made in his life. He became a follower of Jesus and everything changed!

Secondly, Jesus made it clear that He came to seek and save the lost, the perishing. To all who will follow Jesus He will change your life in every way. Today and forever!

I'm looking forward to the next 7 weeks as we learn at VLife the 7 Marks of a Disciple.

I encourage everyone at VLife to be intentional and invite friends to the event with Lisa Whelchel.

Teenagers, do not miss Momentum.

Finally, this weekend our church is hosting a weekend for students who feel called to full time ministry. I will get to share in a couple of sessions. The students and leaders will be with us in our second worship service this Sunday. God is moving!

trusting God with your talents

In Matthew 25 Jesus shares a parable about a master giving his servants talents. Two of the three servants put their talents to work and the Lord blessed greatly! The third got scared, hid his talents, and the master was very disappointed in him.

Jesus is coming back soon and it is imperative that every follower of Christ take their time, talent and treasure and use it in a way that trusts the Lord and sees Him multiply it. My prayer is that VLife will be a ministry that takes the time, talent and treasures the Lord has provided and we prayerfully use it all for God to multiply it.

I have been so encouraged by the many in our church who are putting God first in their lives. I know economic challenges abound, but so many of our families continue to tithe (give God the first 10%) and I believe they will experience the blessing of God, just as God's Word says. Sunday, many of our folks responded by committing to tithe this year of 2011, some for the first time. I'm telling you, God will use a generation that puts Him first in all things!

I want to encourage every teenager to sign up for Momentum this month of February!

Every lady in our area needs to attend the weekend event with Lisa Whelchel! Sign up on our website today! Gonna be a great month of ministry!
